Breakthrough in coffee wilt disease

Uganda's Coffee Research Institute (CORI) under the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) has made a breakthrough in the fight against the coffee wilt diseases.

The disease has been a threat to the coffee industry, Deneth Kyetere, the director of CRI, has said.

Kyetere said the institute has developed coffee wilt resistant varieties of Robusta and Arabica, suitable for low and high land areas.

CRI is one of the nine institutes of NARO charged with carrying out research in coffee, oil palm, cocoa and tea. The government funds the institute with the assistance of the European Union.
