An Administration Police (AP) Corporal and his civilian accomplice
have been arrested this afternoon with 40 kg of ivory (two tusks) at the Kawangware
AP Camp in Nairobi.
The vehicle they were transporting the ivory, Nissan Sunny KAG 891
E, has been impounded and will be part of the court exhibits.
The suspects will be arraigned at Kibera Law Courts in Nairobi
tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9am.A woman suspect was also arrested with four kg of
worked ivory in Westlands late evening and will be taken to the same
court.
At the same time, two suspected poachers are being pursued after
their accomplice was gunned down during an fierce exchange of fire with KWS
rangers in Tana River County.
They were all armed with AK 47 rifles and had killed a buffalo at
Sheikh Bin in Tana River Game Reserve. One magazine and 27 rounds of ammunition
were recovered from the incident.
The war against poaching continues until all wildlife in Kenya is
secured.
In Isiolo County, a gang of
17 suspected poachers are being pursued
after an exchange of fire in Shaba National Reserve.
